If you have ever visited Morocco or Turkey before, and you are a lover of spa’s, you would have come across the concept of a Hammam spa.

An Ancient Beauty Secret

Hammam is probably one of the oldest bathing traditions in the world, which has been dated back for many centuries. This is one and is still very popular today, enjoyed by both men and women across the globe.

The Hammam was initially a place only frequented by men, over time women were able to experience the hammam benefits. Hammam provided people with a central point in which to meet and to socialise with different age groups, different size groups, and skin colors even people from a different area. This then provided an outlet in which to cleanse and to achieve inner tranquility.

A Highly Beneficial Regime

A Hammam spa is highly beneficial for your body, mind and soul. Due to the fact that not only does it reduce muscle tension, improve your sleep and nourish your skin, it also can be a place where people go to meditate and relieve general life stress and worries. Therefore, it makes it an ideal way in which to unwind from the troubles of your day.

One of the key differences - as well as benefits - to experiencing a Hammam spa, it involves moving between rooms of different temperatures, starting out with a sauna, then moving into a slightly less steamy room before finishing up in a cool room. These variations in temperature allow your pores to open and to absorb the different products that are applied to your skin throughout this process.

Recreating This Experience

A typical Hammam spa regime begins with you relaxing in the Suna room which then allows you to relax and opens the pores. The next process then requires you to glazing your body with Ghassoul, a natural clay extracted from the Atlas mountains and mixed with water to form a paste. Once your body has been vigorously scrubbed to remove dead skin cells and built up dirt. You then move into the second room which is a slightly steam room so that your skin can absorb the different products that are applied to it throughout this process.

Your hair is then gently washed, you then move into the final room which is a room to keep you warm which still allows your pores to be open so that your skin can still absorb the different products that are applied to your skin throughout this process. The last steps are the following …Rose Water, made from Atlas roses, in order to calm and to soothe your skin is then applied to your skin, which also, helps you to finish the hammam process, by feeling relaxed as it has anti-anxiety and antidepressant properties, due to the scent of the rose water.
