The Hammam Tradition

For centuries, Moroccan hammam rituals have been used as a form of full-body purification and renewal. The process begins with black soap, which gently softens the skin and helps loosen surface buildup. This is followed by exfoliation using a kessa glove, which physically lifts away dead skin cells to reveal a smoother, more refined texture.

Step 1: Prepare the Skin

• Begin with a warm shower or bath for at least 5 minutes
• This helps soften the skin and prepare the surface for cleansing

Step 2: Apply Black Soap

• Apply Moroccan black soap onto damp skin
• Massage gently until the skin is evenly coated
• Leave on for 2–5 minutes to soften buildup and surface impurities
• Rinse thoroughly with warm water

For a deeper ritual, extend the resting time up to 10 minutes.

• Soak the kessa glove in warm water for 2–5 minutes
• Using firm, controlled strokes, exfoliate the skin in upward motions
